ALL ABOUT EGGS
• Eggs that come from hens raised on pasture are healthier in terms of higher omega-3 and fat-soluble vitamin content in comparison to factory-raised chicken that is on grain-based feeds.
• Eggs contain all the essential amino acids and good quality protein. A high protein diet helps to boost your metabolism through a process termed as the thermic effect of food (energy required to metabolise the consumed food items and its higher for protein sources in comparison to carbs or fats.) Therefore eggs help you burn more calories than other foods.
• When you consume eggs for breakfast you tend to consume fewer calories throughout the day because they keep you full and satiated. They also help to keep your insulin and blood glucose response stable along with suppressing the hunger hormone – ghrelin.
• They rank very high on the satiety index. Because of the high protein content eggs are very filling and nutrient-dense. Eggs provide increased fullness and help to reduce our overall calorie intake/day. Its consumption reduces cravings and late-night snacking.
Do Eggs raise cholesterol?
• Cholesterol is very important for bodily functions and our liver produces cholesterol to meet our body’s demands, but when you consume high cholesterol foods our liver compensates for it and produces less cholesterol to keep the cholesterol levels balanced.
• The egg is a very nutritious food, but the egg yolk has a bad reputation because of its high cholesterol content.
• Eggs raise cholesterol but in the form of HDL that is the good cholesterol. And no increase of LDL (bad) or Total cholesterol has been reported upon whole egg consumption. Therefore eggs are related to a decrease in the risk of heart diseases. They are high on antioxidants – zeaxanthin and lutein that help to reduce cataracts and risk of eye diseases. High amounts of choline in eggs play an important role in cell functioning.
• There are no negative impacts of eating eggs, and its consumption is based on individual requirements. Eggs are rich in healthy fats, essential vitamins, minerals and are a high-quality protein source. They also make for excellent weight-loss food.
