ALL ABOUT INFLAMMATION
Chronic inflammation is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, etc. This article talks about foods that cause inflammation and should be avoided in your regular diet:
- Oils that are high in omega 6 fatty acid promote inflammation in the body. It is important to add omega 3 rich foods to our diet to improve the omega 6 to omega 3 ratio.
- Refined carbohydrates have low fibre content and a high glycemic index which rapidly raises our blood sugar levels.
- Excessive alcohol consumption leads to a leaky gut and increases inflammation in the body.
- Processed meat has high inflammatory compounds like advanced glycation end products (AGEs) which are linked to colon cancer.
- High sugar consumption is linked to inflammation and can lead to many health complications like obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance, cancer, fatty liver disease, etc.
- Artificial trans fats tend to lower the good cholesterol levels in our body and impair the functioning of the endothelial cells lining the arteries.
Inflammation can be controlled by minimising the consumption of foods that trigger and cause inflammation along with eating anti-inflammatory foods like broccoli, turmeric, extra virgin olive oil, green tea, etc.
