NOIDA CYCLING CLUB TAUGHT ME SPORTSMANSHIP – BY AARUSH GULATI
I was always interested in cycling. It has always been one of the things I love to do, but I never felt enthusiastic enough to go cycling regularly. Failing to be regular used to take me into self-analysis, making me ask myself if I actually love cycling or not. The answer was always ‘yes’. I just wasn’t just motivated enough. Noida Cycling Club came into my life to fill in that gap. Ever since I joined the club, I’ve never felt demotivated. Infact, because the club goes for rides in a group, I have now become comfortable travelling long distances as well, which was never my cup of tea.
Being a young class 11 student, it was always difficult for me to go out on longer rides and feel protected, but since Noida Cycling Club organises rides in a group, it makes it super easy for me to travel all around the city. I feel secure and protected in the group. Also, as I get to travel with people older than me, I learn a lot. Members of the Noida Cycling Club are really helpful. They do not just help me get better at the art of cycling, but also amake me learn a lot about sportsmanship, morality, and team spirit. No member of the group fails to take a stand for other members. It is more like a family.
The latest lesson that I have taken from the group is to not let studies or work become a barrier to cycling. Earlier, whenever I used to get a lot of homework, or my exams were around, I always took a break from all kinds of exercise, but the Noida Cycling Club has taught me that taking out time to exercise, even when under work stress, is really important, as it helps fight stress and makes you more productive. Now, I never present an increased workload as an excuse to give up exercising, instead I become more punctual when under stress. The impact of the Noida Cycling Club has been such on my life that now I cycle for two hours every day, irrespective of what day it is.
The Noida Cycling Club has played a major role in shaping the cyclist that I am today. I just won a 5km cycling race, where I won a bronze medal. From somebody who was not even motivated enough to come out for ride on a regular basis to win a cycling event, I feel that NCC has actually turned me into a true athlete. Each NCC ride comes as a wave in life, which pushes me to become the new me, the better me, without asking for any major effort from my end.
Lastly, I would want all the cyclists sitting out there to know that NCC is where they belong. It doesn’t just keep people fit, but also helps them to grow mentally. Whenever I sit and think of the person I was before joining NCC, I realise that I have grown into a better human being.
Thank you, Noida Cycling Club
