The Sport Of Cycling
This article is about the professional cycle sports and the kind of bikes it requires.
- Road cycling: it is all about speed so a bike that is light, stiff and also geometrically matches your preference is the right kind of bike to choose. A road bike should be light so that it does not weight you down and hold you back during steep climbs. It should be stiff so that each pedal stroke can transfer completely to the wheels that will give you speed instead of the frame which creates flex.
- Cyclocross: is about riding a bike in a short circuit with obstacles. These races are very short and usually less than one hour but requires great physical effort. The bikes for cyclocross are designed to handle slow speeds, brakes under extreme conditions like in a muddy terrain and are light enough to carry to clear a tall obstacle.
- Cross – country: mountain biking involves cyclists to ride their bicycles over rough terrains. This sport requires good bike handling skills, agility and strength. The bikes used in mountain biking come with a front fork suspension. In cross country biking you can choose a hardtail with no rear suspension or a full suspension bicycle with a rear suspension for comfort and cushioning.
- Downhill: downhill mountain biking is a sport that is different from mountain biking as it requires more skill and agility than aerobic strength because this sport is about the trail, gravity and the rider. Downhill bikes are built in a way to withstand extreme forces way down a steep trail along with protecting the rider from intense shocks.
- BMX – Bicycle Moto cross: these bikes do not rewire any multiple gears or hydraulic disc brakes. These are light, agile, quick and very popular among people. These bikes help the racers to move around a tight and twisty track as fast as possible.
